Beacon President's Message, March 2022

Happy Spring! I hope you are enjoying the longer days, better weather, and more normal times! March is not only the season of "March Madness," it is also a busy time in the construction industry as exterior site work starts or resumes in colder parts of the U.S. where snow cover and frozen ground slowed or halted outside progress during colder months. Beacon's team members are currently out in the field at many sites, providing construction management, monitoring and other consulting services for a wide range of projects across the U.S. In this month's E-news, we highlight one rooftop emergency generator project which our team is helping a leading Surety to complete in New York City.

This month has also meant the resumption of some in-person industry events now that Covid-related restrictions have been relaxed in most states. Two of our staff members (Elizabeth Paquet & Myat Cyn) attended the most recent Women in Surety event held in New York City. I also had a great time participating in one more “virtual event” earlier this month. I was a co-presenter for an online Continuing Education (CE) / Continuing Legal Education (CLE) event held by Zurich.

Talking about warmer weather, Beacon Project Engineer Ed Forester has an article in this month's E-News which talks about some of the regulations coming in the not-too-distant future for buildings in New York City. Much stricter efficiency and emissions regulations are coming with the goal of significantly reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions coming from buildings. Ed notes some of the impacts this will have related to new building design and construction and how the industry will need to adapt.

One last note: Please don't forget to check out Beacon's Calendar of Events. We have recently updated our list of upcoming industry events.

Sincerely, Dennis O'Neill
President, Beacon Consulting Group, Inc.
