Beacon Project Update: Critical Milestone Completed For Massachusetts Commuter Rail Extension Project

The Wachusett Extension Project is a construction project owned by Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). The project involved building a new commuter train station in Fitchburg, MA and a train layover facility in Westminster, MA. Beacon Consulting Group has been providing Surety Consulting / Construction Consulting services on the project for a number of months, helping to ensure that project work moves forward in a timely manner. Because of early project delays, Beacon was retained by the Surety to help move the project forward -- assisting with project management and cost oversight.

In early November, another major milestone was reached for this project when a temporary certificate of occupancy (TCO) was issued for the new Westminster Train Layover Facility, meaning that construction on that part of the project was completed and approved. The Westminster Facility is located approximately 1.5 miles west of the Wachusett Station. The layover facility includes 6 train storage tracks, an employee parking area, a maintenance building, electrical substation, lighting, fencing, and landscaping.
