Conference Highlights: Beacon Team Members Attend ABA Fidelity & Surety Law Committee (FSLC) Midwinter Meeting

On January 21-23, team members from Beacon attended the annual ABA Fidelity & Surety Law Committee (FSLC) Midwinter Conference, held this year at the JW Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Washington, D.C. Attending on behalf of Beacon were President Dennis O’Neill, John Yeung, Kieran O’Connor, Elizabeth Paquet, and Myat Cyn.

This year’s conference focused on “Mega Projects,” defined as construction projects exceeding $1 billion in value. As projects of this scale increase in size and complexity, surety bonds play a critically important role in managing and mitigating risk. When challenges arise on large-scale construction projects, the resulting risk and financial exposure for all stakeholders can be substantial. Conference sessions therefore explored best practices and strategies for addressing surety claims, legal disputes, and the technical and legal issues that may arise throughout complex construction projects.

The FSLC Midwinter Meeting consistently provides a valuable opportunity for our team to learn, exchange insights, and connect with clients, colleagues, and industry partners, while also building new relationships. This year, Beacon was proud to co-sponsor several events during the conference.

Another highlight from this year’s event: Myat Cyn, Project Manager from Beacon’s New York City office, was selected to be a member of the 2025-2026 class of FSLC Emerging Leaders. The FSLC Emerging Leaders Program is dedicated to identifying and developing rising talent within the fidelity and surety community. Through targeted leadership training and meaningful opportunities for connection, the program equips participants to become future leaders of the FSLC.
