President's Message, February 2026
Happy February. I hope you are staying warm!
In this month’s E-News, we recap Beacon’s participation in last month’s ABA Fidelity & Surety Law (FSLC) Midwinter Conference. This year’s conference, held in Washington, D.C., focused on “Mega Projects,” meaning construction projects exceeding $1 billion in contract value. Projects of this scale are often highly complex and present unique challenges and risks. As always, the conference provided a valuable opportunity to learn, connect with industry peers, and reconnect with long-time friends, clients, and partners. We look forward to seeing many of you again at the FSLC’s Spring Conference, taking place May 13–15 in Sedona, AZ.
In late January, a massive winter storm swept across a large portion of the U.S. In the Boston area, many communities received more than 20 inches of snow during the two-day period of January 25–26. Gloucester, MA, recorded 27 inches, while Philadelphia and New York City experienced their heaviest single-storm snowfall accumulations in five years.
The storm also coincided with extremely cold temperatures, compounding its impact across much of the country. As of January 31, the storm had reportedly caused power outages affecting more than one million customers. The southern U.S. was particularly hard hit, as severe ice conditions damaged tree limbs and power lines, leaving hundreds of thousands of utility customers without power.
Severe weather events like these can significantly impact construction projects. However, it is often unclear whether resulting delays are considered “contractually acceptable.” In this month’s E-News, Beacon Project Manager Marcus Lehner examines this issue and explains how Beacon uses historical weather data to help our clients assess whether specific weather-related project delays may be justified.
Please take a moment to explore this month’s Beacon E-News for additional project updates and firm news. As always, if you need support with any construction consulting matter, please Contact Beacon.
Best Regards,
Dennis O'Neill, President
