Beacon Staff Profile, Kieran O'Connor, Vice President, Southeast U.S.

Having worked on assignments across the U.S. for Beacon over the past 11 years, in 2020 Kieran O’Connor welcomed the opportunity to take the lead role in Beacon's new Florida office, where he now serves as Vice President, Southeast U.S. In addition to serving as the lead consultant on many projects, Kieran has extensive experience managing teams of project managers, superintendents, project engineers, and other consultants to complete projects in an efficient, professional, and cost-effective manner. Kieran has also served as an expert witness related to construction claims litigation and has participated on expert panels at industry conferences.

Kieran joined Beacon's New York office as a Project Engineer in the summer of 2011. He quickly proved himself to be an invaluable member of Beacon's team and within a short time was taking a lead role managing some very complex and challenging construction consulting assignments. As a Senior Project Manager and Surety Consultant, his deep technical expertise, attention to detail, communication skills, work ethic, and hands-on construction management experience helped Kieran to become a leader in the field.

Kieran has a B.E. in Civil Engineering, holds a PMP certification from the Project Management Institute, and has built upon his educational training with years of practical construction management and consulting experience gained working on a broad range of projects. He is equally at home managing teams of subcontractors at a construction site, analyzing large/complex construction-related claims, and working with all stakeholders involved in troubled construction projects to find efficient solutions to turn projects around.

Kieran has more 12 years of experience working on commercial, residential, educational, municipal, public housing, infrastructure, transportation, and marine construction and surety consulting assignments. He also has many years of experience managing the day-to-day work involved in construction consulting and construction management projects, including design development, pre-construction, procurement, construction management oversight and monitoring, as well as Project closeout. Kieran helps Beacon’s Surety clients on matters related to complex bond default issues, including cost-to-complete analyses, payment bond claims reviews, warranty and latent defect claim reviews, and the assembly of completion bid packages.

Kieran originally hails from Kerry, Ireland where he was an active member of Kerry’s GAA football program for several years, rising up to play at the highest level in the sport. Kieran continued to be actively involved in Gaelic football after moving to New York City in 2011, where he played for the Kerry Gaelic Football Club of New York, and was part of the team’s championship-winning lineup in 2013 and 2014. When not traveling for work, Kieran is enjoying the year-round sunny weather in Florida, where he likes spending time outside with his fiancé Erin, staying fit (he completed his first triathlon in 2021), and working on his golf game.
